Fatal West Philadelphia shooting death of Nashon Thomas – Obituary
Nashon Thomas, a 12-year-old boy, was shot in the head and killed Wednesday night in the Belmont section of West Philadelphia, authorities reported.
Emergency crews were called to the 800 block of Brooklyn Street shortly before 9:20 p.m., where they discovered Nashon suffering from a critical gunshot wound. He was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, but despite medical efforts, he died at 9:42 p.m.
The shooting prompted an immediate police response, during which officers recovered a firearm and secured the area. An arrest was made at the scene.
Investigators later confirmed that the suspect is Nashon’s 14-year-old brother. The circumstances leading to the incident remain under investigation.
Support services, including counseling and victim advocacy, are available for families and others impacted by the tragedy of gun violence.
