Fatal Couva highway crash death of Zackariah Gill – Obituary

Zackariah Gill, a 25-year-old police officer with the Port of Spain Guard Unit, tragically lost his life on May 19 after his vehicle collided with an electricity pole on the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Children’s Hospital in Couva. Police arrived at the scene to find Gill still in the driver’s seat of his white BMW 320i, which had struck the pole and was badly damaged. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gill, who lived in Edinburgh, Chaguanas, had been on his way to work and had just dropped off his three-year-old daughter at relatives’ home before the accident occurred. Dashcam footage shared on social media showed his car veering left before skidding diagonally and hitting the pole near the driver’s door, causing the left side of the car to lift briefly at impact.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social and Welfare Association expressed condolences and pledged to support Gill’s family during this difficult time. The officer was remembered as a dedicated and well-liked colleague, with his mother also serving in the police force. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
