[Accra, Ghana] British Woman Arrested in Accra for Attempted Cannabis Smuggling to UK

ACCRA, GHANA — A 23-year-old British woman was arrested in Accra on May 18 after authorities say she attempted to smuggle nearly 18 kilograms of cannabis on a British Airways flight bound for London’s Gatwick Airport.

According to Ghana’s Narcotic Control Commission (NACOC), the woman was stopped during a profiling check at the airport. Officers discovered 32 slabs of suspected narcotics hidden in two suitcases, which later tested positive for cannabis, weighing a total of 17.72 kilograms.

The suspect was taken into custody at the airport and transferred to NACOC’s headquarters in Accra for further investigation. Ghanaian authorities continue to probe the case.

This incident follows recent arrests of other British nationals for drug trafficking from Ghana. The UK and Ghanaian agencies have been working closely to combat drug smuggling through airports.

The woman remains under investigation by Ghanaian officials.
