Adala Sanders, a 38-year-old resident of Granby, lost her life in a deadly collision on May 18 along U.S. Highway 40 between Hot Sulphur Springs and Granby. The crash occurred near Mile Post 206 late Sunday evening.

According to Trooper Gabriel Moltrer of the Colorado State Patrol, Sanders was driving a Jeep Cherokee westbound when she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevy Silverado traveling eastbound, driven by a 54-year-old individual from Fraser. Both vehicles spun off the road on opposite sides following the impact.

Sanders was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and remained inside her vehicle, while the other driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The highway was closed for several hours, reopening around 3:15 a.m. following initial response and cleanup.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with state patrol officials noting it may take weeks or months to complete due to the fatality involved. The Grand County Coroner, Tawnya Bailey, officially confirmed Sanders as the deceased victim.
