Fatal Lancaster County hit-and-run crash death of Curtis Groff – Obituary

Curtis Groff, a 16-year-old boy, tragically died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in Penn Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The incident happened on the night of May 2, 2024, when Groff was reportedly cutting weeds near a cemetery. Police found him with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, but no car was at the scene. Investigators discovered tire marks in the grass, scrapes on the road, and vehicle debris, all pointing to a collision.

Authorities later identified 24-year-old Mikayla Mustard as the driver involved. Evidence from her phone showed she was using Snapchat before and after the crash, including messages referencing blood on her vehicle and concerns about going to jail. Mustard initially told police she might have struck a deer or a rock and left the scene, driving back to her home in Harrisburg.

The investigation concluded that Mustard’s distracted driving while reading a message caused her to leave her lane and strike Groff, leading to his death. She now faces felony charges of homicide by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury. Mustard is scheduled for arraignment soon as the case moves forward.
