[Monroeville, AL] Man Carlos Terrill ONeal Wilkerson Arrested in Burke County, NC for Phone Scam and Extortion

BURKE COUNTY, NC — Carlos Terrill ONeal Wilkerson, a resident of Monroeville, Alabama, was arrested in Burke County, North Carolina, in connection with a phone scam involving impersonation and extortion.

According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, Wilkerson was taken into custody on May 11, 2025, in Monroeville and extradited to Burke County on May 21. The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, when Wilkerson allegedly called a victim pretending to be Sheriff Banks Hinceman, falsely claiming the victim missed jury duty and threatening arrest unless $6,000 was paid. The victim paid the amount under duress.

Wilkerson faces charges of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretenses, Felony Extortion, and Misdemeanor Impersonation of a Law Enforcement Officer. He was issued a secured bond of $50,000 and was scheduled to appear in court on May 22.
