Fatal Bell Mountain, Georgia shooting death of Qaadir and Naazir Lewis – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed that 19-year-old twin brothers Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, whose bodies were found in March atop Bell Mountain in Georgia, both died by suicide. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation initially categorized the incident as a murder-suicide but updated their conclusion following a more in-depth inquiry.

In a statement released Wednesday, the GBI said, “Autopsy results and other investigative evidence support that the deaths were a double suicide.” Investigators have since met with the Lewis family to explain the updated findings.

Evidence from the scene showed that both brothers had fired a weapon. Officials also reviewed the twins’ internet search histories, which included content related to suicide methods and firearm usage.

The investigation revealed that Naazir had purchased the ammunition used, and a firearm was delivered to his home two days before their journey to Hiawassee, about 90 miles from their residence in Lawrenceville. Surveillance footage recorded them together at a gas station in Lawrenceville roughly half a day before their bodies were discovered on March 8.

Initially, the family questioned the murder-suicide theory, believing the bond between the brothers was too strong for one to harm the other.

Yasmine Brawner, their aunt, wrote on Facebook that she didn’t believe they were responsible for each other’s deaths, insisting “someone took their lives away.” On a GoFundMe page she launched, she described the twins as hopeful and creative young men who were building dreams, including launching a clothing brand called Overkill. “Go beyond limits—Overkill—go all the way,” added another aunt, Sabriya Brawner, in an interview.

Both Qaadir and Naazir were attending trade schools, with Qaadir focusing on aviation maintenance and Naazir training in automotive repair. Their older sister, Kai’ree Powell, described them as ambitious and deeply committed to building successful careers.
