Richard Moseley dies in fatal Athens house fire

Fatal Athens house fire death of Richard Moseley – Obituary

Richard Moseley, 73, was identified as the man found dead after a fire tore through his home on Briarcliff Road in west Athens during the early hours of May 19. Moseley had been living alone in the residence following the death of his wife, Kaaren Kilbow Moseley, in June of the previous year.

Athens-Clarke County firefighters arrived at the scene around 2:18 a.m. to find the house engulfed in flames. The fire was so intense that even after it was extinguished, the structural damage prevented first responders from safely entering the home.

It took more than three hours before emergency crews were able to access the ruins, where they discovered Moseley’s body among the debris. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has since performed an autopsy, though it remains unclear whether Moseley succumbed to the blaze or passed away beforehand. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.
