Fatal Dickinson County car crash death of Denise Renee Henely – Obituary

Denise Renee Henely, a 57-year-old resident of Herington, Kansas, tragically lost her life in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon in Dickinson County. She was one of four victims killed in the devastating crash.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place just before 3 p.m. on Kansas Highway 4, about four miles west of Kansas Highway 15. A 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by Dawn Rae Peel, 30, of Herington, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound 2025 Chevy Traverse in which Henely was a passenger.

Henely was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home. She was one of four fatalities, including Peel, 71-year-old Peggy Ann Sutton of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and an 8-year-old boy from Herington.

The Traverse was driven by 23-year-old Adam Gerhart Henely of Salina. He and another passenger were not hospitalized. Two other children involved—an 8-year-old boy in the Hyundai and a 14-year-old boy in the Traverse—were transported to Wesley Medical Center for treatment.

Officials noted that all individuals involved in the crash had been wearing seat belts. The tragic event has left a profound impact on the Herington community, as they mourn the loss of Denise and the others who died.
