Fatal Murphy Canyon plane crash death of Kendall An Fortner – Obituary

Kendall An Fortner, 24, has been confirmed as one of the victims who perished in the small plane crash that struck San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood early Thursday morning.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Fortner among the six people believed to have been aboard the Cessna aircraft when it went down near Salmon and Sculpin streets around 3:45 a.m.

Fortner was one of five victims whose deaths were officially confirmed at the crash site, located in the 10200 block of Sample Street. Along with Fortner, the deceased included Dominic Christopher Damian, 41; David Shapiro, 42; Emma L. Huke, 25; and Celina Marie Rose Kenyon, 36.

Daniel Williams, former drummer for the rock band The Devil Wears Prada, was also said to be on the plane, though his identity had not yet been officially confirmed by the county at the time.

In a public statement, Tandem Management Company, which manages artists including The Devil Wears Prada, paid tribute to Fortner, Williams, Shapiro, and Huke, calling them “extraordinary individuals” and mourning their loss.

The crash caused destruction to several homes and cars along Sample Street, though residents on the ground survived. Those who sustained injuries were primarily treated for smoke inhalation and wounds related to emergency evacuations.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
