Fatal Chicago shooting death of Lamarr Barber – Obituary
Lamarr Barber, 42, was shot and killed Friday afternoon during a violent confrontation inside a business in Chicago’s West Englewood neighborhood.
The incident unfolded shortly before 4:25 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Damen Avenue, where police say Barber became involved in a verbal dispute with two other men. The altercation escalated into a physical fight, at which point a 38-year-old man drew a firearm and opened fire.
Barber suffered multiple gunshot wounds—four to the chest, one to the head, and one to the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him as a resident of the 2000 block of West 71st Street in Chicago.
The suspected shooter sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand, was taken into custody, and transported to Christ Hospital in good condition. As of the latest report, he had not been formally charged.
The second individual involved fled the scene on foot heading west on 71st Street and had not been apprehended. Area 1 detectives continue to investigate the case.
