Fatal Lake Mathews shooting death of Paul Hunter – Obituary
Paul Hunter, a 25-year-old man from Riverside, was fatally shot Thursday night after allegedly breaking into a home in the Lake Mathews area of Riverside County.
Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a suspicious person around 11 p.m. on the 16000 block of Hidden Peak Lane. According to officials, the homeowner contacted dispatch stating that an unknown man was trying to force his way into the residence and that they were armed.
While still on the phone with emergency services, the intruder—later identified as Hunter—managed to enter the home. At that point, the homeowner shot him. Despite efforts by paramedics to save his life, Hunter was declared dead at the scene.
The homeowner was later taken to the Lake Mathews sheriff’s station for questioning. Authorities have not indicated whether the homeowner will face any charges, as the case remains under investigation.
