Rhome, Texas Man Alan Schutt Arrested in Wise County for Fatal Intoxication Crash
RHOME, TEXAS — Alan Schutt, a 58-year-old resident of Rhome, was arrested in Wise County in connection with a fatal crash involving an intoxicated driver that claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Schutt was taken into custody on Thursday night after a crash on Highway 287 near Rhome. Authorities say Schutt was driving a Jeep Cherokee that struck two parked vehicles and hit a woman standing nearby, before veering into oncoming traffic and colliding with an SUV.
Bystanders, including an Oklahoma couple, witnessed the crash. The wife attempted CPR on the 19-year-old victim, while her husband chased down Schutt as he fled the scene and held him until law enforcement arrived. Witnesses reported Schutt smelled of alcohol at the time of his arrest.
Schutt was transported to the Wise County Jail and is currently facing charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to render aid involving death. He has since bonded out.
