Fatal Forsyth County ATV crash death of Ricardo “Ricky” Hernandez – Obituary

A family in Forsyth County is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 4-year-old Ricardo “Ricky” Hernandez, who was killed in an ATV accident Sunday evening.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Valley Stream Drive, close to Campground Road. Investigators say a 16-year-old was operating an ATV with Ricky riding as a passenger when the teen attempted a fast, sharp right turn. The vehicle flipped, ejecting both of them. Authorities confirmed neither child was wearing a helmet at the time.

Emergency responders arrived to find Ricky unresponsive and sadly declared him dead at the scene. The teen driver was taken to North Fulton Medical Center, where he spent time in the intensive care unit before being released earlier in the week.

The crash took place during what was meant to be a celebration for the Hernandez family, as they had gathered for a high school graduation. Ricky’s older brother, Jose Hernandez, shared that Ricky loved life, especially riding his small ATV. He also adored dinosaurs and monster trucks.

“You could always hear him in the morning zipping around on his little electric ride,” Jose said. “He was joyful, full of energy, and he made everyone around him feel that way.”

In Ricky’s memory, neighbors have created a growing memorial in the neighborhood. Many have stepped up to offer meals and emotional comfort in the wake of the tragedy. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family with expenses.

The Forsyth County Traffic Specialist Unit is continuing its investigation into the crash.
