Seth Marshall dies in fatal West Philadelphia shooting

Fatal West Philadelphia shooting death of Seth Marshall – Obituary

Seth Marshall, 15, was killed in a deadly shooting inside a West Philadelphia grocery store on Wednesday afternoon. Philadelphia police arrested 22-year-old Jaquan Higgs, a local resident with a permit to carry a concealed weapon, in connection with the shooting. Higgs faces charges including murder and attempted murder after two teenagers were shot inside the store on the 5400 block of Race Street.

Authorities responded around 2:15 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Seth Marshall deceased at the scene and a 16-year-old teen critically wounded and rushed to Lankenau Medical Center. Police sources indicate that both teens were armed, though surveillance footage reveals neither drew their weapons before being shot. The video shows Marshall near the front door, texting on his phone with a gun visibly tucked in his waistband before the shooting occurred.

Law enforcement officials say Higgs remained at the location after the incident and acted in self-defense. Despite their young ages, both teenagers had extensive criminal records, including Marshall being wanted on weapons charges in Montgomery County. Higgs, however, has no prior criminal history, allowing him to legally carry a firearm. The investigation continues as police work to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
