Fatal Linn County house fire death of Sharon Dougherty – Obituary
Sharon Dougherty, a 57-year-old woman from Scio, Oregon, was killed in a house fire Tuesday morning east of Scio, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency services were alerted just after 7 a.m. about a residence engulfed in flames on Highway 226. Witnesses informed dispatch that someone was still inside the home. Marilyn Hanson, 76, managed to escape the burning structure and informed responders that another person remained trapped.
Due to the intensity of the fire, crews were initially unable to enter the house. Once conditions allowed, firefighters located Dougherty deceased inside. Hanson, who suffered severe burns, was taken first to Santiam Hospital, then airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment.
The blaze is still under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Oregon State Police. Authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to reach out to Detective Kyle Connelly at 541-967-3950.
