James Ray Carter, 75, of Bend, Oregon, lost his life Wednesday night after being hit by a semi truck on the Bend Parkway. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the Reed Market Road exit.

Oregon State Police reported that the semi, operated by a driver from California, struck Mr. Carter while he was in the left lane of the highway. The circumstances that led to Mr. Carter being in the roadway remain under investigation.

The highway was shut down for roughly three hours as authorities responded to the scene and began their inquiry into the fatal crash. Further details have not yet been released.
