Kayden Mohon dies in fatal Brookhaven shooting

Fatal Brookhaven shooting death of Kayden Mohon – Obituary

Fifteen-year-old Kayden Mohon was killed in a shooting that occurred on the evening of Sunday, May 25, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. The incident took place around 6:20 p.m. in the area near Ozark Lane and Crooked Lane.

Authorities were called to 933 Ozark Lane just minutes later, at 6:23 p.m., where Mohon was found. It remains uncertain whether he was shot at that location or transported there after being wounded elsewhere.

Another person sustained injuries during the shooting on Ozark Lane and was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center by private vehicle. That individual is expected to survive.

Brookhaven police are also investigating several other shootings that happened over the weekend, including shots fired into homes and vehicles on Crooked Lane, Mildred Street, East Court Street, Rogers Circle, Industrial Park Road, Brant Trail, and Marr Street. These incidents occurred over a span of several hours and are believed to be gang-related.

Police have not released additional information regarding suspects or motives. Investigations into each of these cases are ongoing.

Notably, the location where Mohon was found is the same address where a drive-by shooting occurred on March 13. That earlier incident may have been linked to a homicide on March 12, when 21-year-old Deleatric Quarles was fatally shot in the Cloverdale Housing Complex. James Lewis Levi Jr., 30, was identified as the suspect in that case.

In April, a shooting occurred near McDonald’s following a prom night gathering, and later that day, shots were fired from a moving SUV, hitting a nearby residence. On May 20, two people were shot at Smith’s Car Wash, believed to be innocent bystanders, and one of the victims was airlifted for further treatment.

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins is scheduled to retire on June 30, with Randy Belcher stepping in as interim chief until a permanent replacement is named.
