Memphis, Tennessee Man DeAngelo Mitchell Arrested in Shelby County for Murder of Mother of Three

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — DeAngelo Mitchell, a 23-year-old resident of Memphis, was arrested in Shelby County in connection with the fatal shooting of Jyrah Smith, a mother of three, in South Memphis.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell was taken into custody on Friday during a police response to a shooting on Georgia Avenue. Authorities say the incident took place around 6 a.m. on May 23 and resulted in the death of Smith, who leaves behind three children between the ages of one and six.

Mitchell was transported to the Shelby County Jail and is currently facing a charge of second-degree murder. Jail records list his arrest as a felony related to domestic violence.
