Richard Teagarden, 52, was killed late Sunday night in Hampton, Virginia, after being hit by a vehicle while using a marked crosswalk. The incident occurred around 10:49 p.m. near the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and North Armistead Avenue.
Emergency personnel arrived to find Mr. Teagarden lying in the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Hampton Police Division, he was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of West Mercury Boulevard in a designated crosswalk when the crash occurred.
The driver responsible fled the area before officers arrived. Police are actively investigating the incident, and the department’s Reconstruction Team has been assigned to the case.
