Rosamond Brookins dies in fatal Tampa shooting

Fatal Tampa shooting death of Rosamond Brookins – Obituary

Rosamond Brookins, 46, was shot and killed by a Hillsborough County deputy on Sunday morning following a domestic violence incident at a home in Tampa, Florida.

According to authorities, the situation began around 4:41 a.m. when deputies responded to a report of a possible break-in at a residence where Brookins lived with her daughter, grandchild, and a roommate. Before law enforcement arrived, Brookins allegedly shot her daughter in the hand during a dispute. The roommate was able to flee the house with the child, ensuring their safety.

Deputies who entered the home discovered the injured daughter, who appeared to be under the influence of a substance, and transported her to a hospital where she remains in stable condition.

Brookins had locked herself in a back room and refused to comply with repeated commands to surrender. When deputies forced entry, they found her on the floor holding a firearm. After ignoring additional orders and beginning to raise the weapon, she was fatally shot by Deputy Joshua Thomas.

Deputy Thomas, who has served with the sheriff’s office for ten months following a six-year tenure with the Temple Terrace Police Department, had no prior incidents involving deadly force.

Officials described the event as a case of domestic violence. Investigators revealed Brookins had been asked to move out of the residence just two days earlier. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now overseeing the investigation into the shooting.
