Fatal Augusta crash death of Andrew Mark Pregel IV – Obituary

Andrew Mark Pregel IV, a 58-year-old man from Augusta, was killed in a tragic traffic collision earlier this month on Mike Padgett Highway, marking the second deadly crash in the area that week.

Authorities say the crash occurred when a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche heading southbound on the 3600 block of Mike Padgett Highway veered into the northbound lane. The vehicle collided head-on with a 2019 Ford Fiesta being driven by Pregel.

According to the investigation, the driver of the Avalanche failed to stay within their lane, which led to the fatal accident.

Pregel was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:45 a.m., while the other driver was transported to a hospital for treatment.

This deadly incident came amid a string of fatal crashes in Augusta. Two days before Pregel’s death, a young boy named Camden Poole died in another head-on collision at Peach Orchard and Tobacco roads. Just one day after Pregel’s crash, 56-year-old Darrell Walker lost his life in an accident at the intersection of Deans Bridge Road and Dover Street.
