Fatal Dunleer bus crash death of Colette Campbell – Obituary
Colette Campbell, aged 80, has been identified as the woman who tragically lost her life after being struck by a bus on Lower Main Street in Dunleer, County Louth. The incident occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Monday. She was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was later pronounced dead.
Reports indicate that Colette had only recently left her nearby home before the accident happened. Her passing marks the fifth female road fatality in Ireland since Saturday, with other incidents involving pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers across several counties.
Following the crash, authorities closed off the scene for a detailed technical investigation, with traffic diversions implemented in the area. The Gardaà are appealing for witnesses and urging anyone who was in the vicinity between 12:10 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.—especially those with dashcam or other footage—to contact them.
The Dunleer community has been deeply shaken by the tragedy. Tributes have poured in, describing Colette as a warm and friendly woman who always had time for a chat. Friends and neighbors recalled her kindness, with one mourner remembering how she would wave from the window as they waited for the bus.
Local Sinn Féin Councillor Debbie McCole expressed her condolences, offering sympathy to Colette’s family and thanking emergency responders. The local parish also offered prayers for Colette and all affected by the crash, including those on the bus.
