Fatal Lancaster County shooting death of Curtis Groff – Obituary

Curtis Groff, a 16-year-old from Manheim, lost his life in a tragic accident on May 2, 2024, in Penn Township, Lancaster County. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near 240 W. Sun Hill Road, where Groff was found deceased by police at the roadside. Investigation revealed that Groff had been working with a weed whacker along the roadside, marked by traffic cones for safety, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound that had veered off the road.

The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Mikayla Mustard of Harrisburg, was not initially present at the scene but later arrived with a relative and admitted to being behind the wheel. Authorities determined through crash reconstruction that Mustard’s driving was the primary cause of the collision. Evidence showed that Mustard had been using Snapchat during the incident and was aware of the damage to her vehicle, acknowledging the possibility of legal consequences. She has since been charged, arraigned, and faces a preliminary hearing set for June 30.
