Daniel Hepehi dies in fatal Horeke homicide
Fatal Horeke homicide death of Daniel Hepehi – Obituary
Daniel Hepehi, also known as Danny Whiston, a 77-year-old man, died from severe injuries sustained at a residence on Waikerikeri Road in Horeke in the early hours of May 22. Emergency responders attended to him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities launched a homicide investigation shortly after his death. The incident came to light after a man approached the Kaikohe Police Station around 8:30 p.m. on May 21, prompting officers to visit the property.
Detective Inspector Rhys Johnston confirmed that Hepehi had been seen grocery shopping in Kaikohe at about 10:30 a.m. on May 21. Police are now seeking information from anyone who may have seen or interacted with him that day.
Hepehi was known for cycling long distances throughout Horeke, ÅŒkaihau, and Kaikohe. Investigators are also asking for any information regarding a green and gold four-wheel-drive SUV with the license plate LCP129.
