Dexter Leon Monk dies in fatal Charlotte lawn mower crash

Fatal Charlotte lawn mower crash death of Dexter Leon Monk – Obituary

Dexter Leon Monk, 63, lost his life in a vehicle collision involving a riding lawn mower on May 20, 2025, in northwest Charlotte.

The incident occurred on Freedom Drive near Eagles Landing Drive. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responding to the scene discovered Monk lying unresponsive in the roadway with severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Monk had been operating a riding lawn mower westbound along Freedom Drive when he was struck by a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country driven by 58-year-old Kevin David. David remained at the crash site and cooperated with investigators. Police stated that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
