Fatal Oswego River drowning death of Jomuel Rodriguez Fuentes – Obituary
The body of 14-year-old Jomuel Rodriguez Fuentes from Oswego was recovered from Lake Ontario near the Oswego River on May 26, authorities confirmed. Emergency personnel from the Oswego Police and Fire Departments, along with support from the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, Menter Ambulance, and the U.S. Coast Guard, conducted the recovery. The young boy had been reported missing after he jumped off the Utica Street Bridge into the river shortly after midnight. Despite initial efforts to save him, including the use of life rings and rescue boats, the strong current pulled him under. Search and recovery operations continue amid challenging weather and river conditions. The Oswego Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. The community and school officials have been providing support to the family during this difficult time.
