Joshua Schneider dies in fatal Harrisburg beating

Fatal Harrisburg beating death of Joshua Schneider – Obituary

Joshua Schneider was killed in a violent attack in downtown Harrisburg on Monday afternoon. Police say he was found behind St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral on Front Street around 3 p.m., wrapped in a sleeping blanket, appearing to have been asleep when the assault occurred.

Authorities have charged 22-year-old Angelo Ceccarani of Harrisburg with murder after he admitted to striking Schneider multiple times in the head with both a brick and a cinder block. In a statement to investigators, Ceccarani said he acted out of anger after Schneider allegedly joked about his mother and stole his phone charger.

Ceccarani had contacted emergency services earlier that day, saying someone named Josh had come at him with a brick and that he had fought back. His description of his attire matched security footage from the scene.

In addition to murder, Ceccarani faces a charge of possessing an instrument of crime with the intent to use it criminally. He was denied bail and is currently held at Dauphin County Prison pending a court hearing scheduled for June 9.
