On May 24, 2025, Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez, a Hispanic male born August 4, 1988, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the 4900 block of Burleson Road in Austin. The accident happened just before 1 a.m., and emergency responders pronounced Martinez-Hernandez deceased at the scene. Initially, the driver fled but later contacted authorities from his residence.

The driver, 34-year-old Angelo Francisco Pinheiro, was located at his apartment shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Following an investigation that included a DWI assessment, Pinheiro was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony.

This crash marks the 35th fatal traffic accident in Austin for the year 2025, resulting in 39 deaths so far.
