Maria Scheider dies in fatal Polk County collision

Fatal Polk County collision death of Maria Scheider – Obituary

Maria Scheider, 48, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, lost her life in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 35 near Milltown on May 23, 2025. The accident happened just after 3:20 p.m. south of 210th Avenue when northbound traffic slowed due to wildlife crossing the road. A pickup truck, trying to avoid hitting the slowing cars ahead, rear-ended one vehicle, then veered into the southbound lane, crashing head-on into Scheider’s SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, while the driver of the vehicle that was rear-ended experienced minor injuries. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the crash.

Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak thanked the first responders from several local fire departments and EMS units for their swift help at the accident site.
