Fatal Gauteng murder death of Olorato Mongale – Obituary
Olorato Mongale, aged 30, was tragically killed in Gauteng after going on a date with a man believed to be her assailant. On Sunday afternoon, the suspect, identified only as John, picked her up from her residence in Athol, Johannesburg, driving a white Volkswagen Polo equipped with a cloned number plate originally registered to a Toyota Hilux (LT 57 JG GP).
The man allegedly drove with Mongale through Alexandra township and then to Kew. Between Alexandra and Lombardy West, Mongale was murdered, and her body was found around 5 p.m. in Lombardy West. Police, supported by local community members, located her remains less than two hours after she was reported missing. Some of her belongings, including her handbag and mobile phone, were discovered abandoned in Kew.
Authorities in Gauteng are actively pursuing the suspect, who may have had an accomplice at the time of the crime. The police are also investigating a related case involving a 39-year-old woman found dead in Sandown, Sandton earlier in May.
Law enforcement officials urge women to remain cautious, especially if approached by unknown individuals driving a white Volkswagen Polo with the cloned plates, and advise always informing friends or family about their whereabouts when meeting new acquaintances.
The police continue their investigation into this horrific act of gender-based violence and femicide, calling on the public for any information that could help apprehend those responsible.
