Fatal Tipton County motorcycle crash death of William Matthews – Obituary

A tragic collision just north of Tipton claimed the life of 64-year-old William Matthews on Saturday, May 24.

The crash took place around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 19 and Division Road. Matthews was heading north on his motorcycle when a southbound Mercedes turned east onto Division Road, hitting the motorcycle during the turn, according to the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office.

Matthews was thrown from his bike and died at the scene. The woman driving the Mercedes, who is from Chesterton, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities stated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
