Fatal Augusta hit-and-run death of Xavion Wimberly – Obituary
Xavion Wimberly, 23, tragically lost his life early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Deans Bridge Road near Suz Lounge in Augusta. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on May 25, and despite efforts to save him, Wimberly was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:12 a.m.
Authorities quickly identified and arrested 23-year-old Daveyon Williams, also from Augusta, charging him with homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. Williams is currently held without bond at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Police found a 2016 Hyundai Sonata linked to Williams with front-end damage consistent with the crash.
Wimberly’s death has deeply affected the local community, with many mourning his loss and expressing anger over reports that he may have been robbed while dying—an allegation still under investigation.
Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams offered condolences, describing Xavion as respectful, humble, and kind, and urged the community to come together to support each other during this difficult time.
An autopsy has been scheduled, and the investigation into the fatal crash remains active.
