Christian Allen dies in fatal Salt Lake City shooting

Fatal Salt Lake City shooting death of Christian Allen – Obituary

Christian Allen, 60, was shot and killed by Salt Lake City police on May 26, 2025, during a domestic violence incident, according to local neighbors who have identified him. Police responded to a 911 call just after midnight, reporting a man attempting to break into a home where his former spouse and children were hiding.

Court records reveal that Allen had a long history of violence and legal issues, including prior charges of attempted murder and arson in 2010. At that time, he was accused of attacking his wife, choking her, and dousing her with gasoline. She managed to flee to a neighbor’s home, after which Allen allegedly set his own house on fire. He later pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and aggravated assault, while other charges were dropped.

Merle French, a neighbor familiar with the family’s struggles, shared that Allen had served jail time and had recently violated a restraining order taken out by his former wife. French noted that escalating tensions were not surprising given Allen’s past.

When police arrived at the residence early Monday morning, officers encountered a potentially dangerous situation involving the smell of gasoline and the violation of a protective order. According to authorities, at least two officers discharged their weapons, resulting in Allen’s death.

French expressed sorrow for the family, especially for the children who were present during the incident, stating, “It’s heartbreaking to see a family go through this kind of trauma.”

While the investigation remains active, detectives have yet to officially confirm the identity of the deceased suspect.
