David Carcamo dies in fatal Las Vegas shooting

Fatal Las Vegas shooting death of David Carcamo – Obituary

David Carcamo, a 21-year-old father from Las Vegas, was fatally shot on May 23, 2025, outside an AutoZone located on Charleston Boulevard. According to authorities, he was killed with his own firearm during a confrontation with an erratic individual inside the store.

The tragic incident began when Carcamo, accompanied by a store employee, approached a man acting strangely and appearing partially undressed. The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Kyle Robert Capucci, was wearing only a hat, shirt, and underwear when he entered the premises. Witnesses say Carcamo, who had previously worked at AutoZone and was shopping for car parts, asked Capucci if he needed help.

Moments later, Capucci reportedly grabbed for Carcamo’s visible 9 mm handgun. A physical struggle broke out between the two men, witnessed by the store manager and other employees. The altercation escalated, and multiple shots were fired. Carcamo was struck several times in the face, neck, chest, hand, arm, and back and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Capucci fled the store but was apprehended nearby. When police found him, he had blood on his clothing and appeared disoriented. During questioning, Capucci acknowledged shooting Carcamo and claimed he acted out of fear. Detectives noted he appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis at the time.

David Carcamo is remembered as a devoted single father of a 2-year-old daughter and a hard-working man who held two jobs to support his family. A GoFundMe campaign organized in his memory has raised over $5,000 of its $28,000 goal. Outside the store, mourners created a small tribute with candles and a note reading “#Long Live David.”

Capucci, who has a criminal history including convictions for attempted robbery and drug trafficking, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a murder charge. He is scheduled for a court appearance before Judge Rebecca Saxe.
