Fatal Newton County shooting death of Dennis Griede – Obituary

Dennis Griede, a 37-year-old resident of Wheatfield, Indiana, lost his life following a shooting incident that occurred just after midnight on May 21 in rural Newton County. Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on County Road 50 South, located roughly four miles north of Morocco.

 

Upon arrival, deputies discovered Griede with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

 

Following a swift investigation, authorities arrested two individuals from Morocco in connection with the shooting. Matthew DeYoung, 40, has been preliminarily charged with murder, criminal recklessness, obstruction of justice, and neglect of a dependent. Theresa DeYoung, 35, faces preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, obstruction of justice, and providing false information to law enforcement.

 

Booking photos for those arrested were made available through the sheriff’s office app, though officials noted issues with the image quality for Theresa DeYoung.
