Fatal Kalamazoo County shooting death of Dequevion Markuise Brown – Obituary
Dequevion Markuise Brown, 29, of Kalamazoo, was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon, May 27, 2025, at the Canterbury House Apartments in Oshtemo Township. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office identified Brown after responding to reports of a gunshot around 2:36 p.m. near Drake Road and KL Avenue.
Officers and medical personnel found Brown unresponsive inside the apartment complex. Despite emergency efforts, he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police detained a person near the scene but released them after clearing them as a suspect.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the case and is asking anyone with information to contact their Criminal Investigations Division at 269-383-8749 or provide an anonymous tip through Silent Observer.
Family, friends, and the community have been deeply affected by Brown’s tragic and senseless death. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Michigan State Police and Western Michigan University Police, assisted at the scene as residents looked on and investigators used drones and other tools to gather evidence.
Authorities emphasize the importance of gun control amid the community’s shock following the shooting near a residential area.
