Fatal Emeryville freeway pedestrian death of Erich Raley-Vincent – Obituary

Erich Raley-Vincent, 44, of Emeryville, was killed Monday night after being struck by several vehicles on Interstate 80 in a tragic incident near the Powell Street off-ramp.

The Oakland division of the California Highway Patrol reported that the sequence of events began around 10:50 p.m. when a BMW sedan crashed into a concrete barrier on the westbound side of the freeway. Following the crash, Raley-Vincent exited the vehicle and began walking on the roadway.

Shortly after, he was hit by multiple passing vehicles while in the slow lane. The CHP described the scene as involving a man in a blue track suit sitting in the roadway.

A Sig alert was issued at 11:04 p.m. as westbound lanes were shut down to allow Caltrans and officers to manage the investigation. The closure extended until 1:44 a.m., affecting connector ramps to eastbound I-580 and southbound I-880.

Emergency responders pronounced Raley-Vincent dead at the scene. All involved drivers stayed at the location and cooperated with law enforcement officials, according to CHP statements.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau later confirmed Raley-Vincent’s identity and listed his place of residence as Emeryville.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding the accident to reach out to CHP’s Oakland office and ask for Officer Velasco.
