Jamarion Brown, a college basketball player from Henderson State University, lost his life following a shooting at a pool party in Camp County, Texas. The 20-year-old athlete was found critically wounded with a gunshot to the head after deputies responded to the scene on Friday. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Seventeen-year-old Onterrian Jamour Newton was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with murder in connection to Brown’s death. Authorities also reported two other individuals were injured in the same shooting, sustaining gunshot wounds to the leg and hip, but neither suffered life-threatening injuries. The Texas Rangers are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Henderson State University expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Brown, highlighting the significant impact he made during his time on campus despite only playing one season. The men’s basketball coach reflected on the profound void left by Brown’s passing, emphasizing the lasting memories he created within the university community. Newton remains in Camp County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
