The incident took place near the corner of Florida Street and Utica Avenue, where Jose was involved in a physical struggle with the young suspect.

Jose’s brother, David Nares, recounted how he came home that Friday evening and heard what sounded like fireworks. Upon rushing outside, he saw his brother struggling with the teen, who then fled the scene. David immediately called for paramedics and tried to assist his brother.

Jose was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead that same night. Authorities quickly cordoned off the neighborhood to investigate the scene and arrested a teenager between the ages of 14 and 18, who is now charged with murder. The flare gun used in the attack was also recovered by police.
