Fatal Gloucester County, New Jersey crash death of Juan Carlos Munguia-Palma and Dennis Burgos – Obituary

Two Maryland teenagers, Juan Carlos Munguia-Palma, 19, and Dennis Burgos, 14, tragically lost their lives in a deadly car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in Gloucester County earlier this month. The crash also left four others injured and is now the focus of a serious legal investigation.

Authorities confirmed that Cesar Ivan Martinez-Adino, 19, from Maryland, was driving the SUV involved in the accident. Shortly after 1 a.m. on May 18, Martinez-Adino lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer down an embankment and collide with a tree in Harrison Township. Of the six passengers in the car, four were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The State Police reported that two passengers, identified as Munguia-Palma and Burgos, died at the scene, while the remaining four occupants were hospitalized with injuries ranging from serious to moderate. Martinez-Adino himself suffered severe injuries and remains hospitalized.

Investigations revealed troubling details about the circumstances leading to the crash. Police recovered a pink cellphone outside the vehicle which had been recording. The video footage allegedly shows Martinez-Adino driving recklessly, using his phone behind the wheel, nearly colliding with another car before the crash occurred. Additionally, empty beer bottles and a mixed drink were found inside the SUV. Toxicology results on the driver are still pending.

Martinez-Adino was also driving without a valid license at the time of the crash. Due to these factors, he faces multiple charges including two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, child endangerment, causing death while unlicensed, assault by auto, and causing serious injury while driving without a license.

Once his medical treatment is complete, Martinez-Adino will be held at Salem County Correctional Facility as the investigation continues. No attorney has been listed for him in court records as of the latest updates.

Authorities urge anyone with information about this case to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
