Fatal Newport News shooting death of Karen Yvonne Watkins – Obituary

Karen Yvonne Watkins, a 37-year-old woman from Norfolk, lost her life following a shooting late Sunday night in Newport News. Authorities report that the incident occurred near the intersection of 27th Street and Wickham Avenue in the southeastern part of the city.

Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:21 p.m. after the city’s ShotSpotter system, which detects the sound of gunfire and pinpoints its location, registered gunshots.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Watkins suffering from at least one gunshot injury. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away from her wounds.
