Fatal Ozaukee County car crash death of Nicole and Jay Horne – Obituary

Nicole and Jay Horne of Oostburg lost their lives early Monday morning when a wrong-way driver struck their vehicle on Interstate 43 near Port Washington. Their daughter, Allissa Horne, sustained critical injuries in the same crash.

According to their niece, Cassie Ames, the Horne family was known for being incredibly close. She described the couple and their two children as inseparable, emphasizing the depth of their bond.

Ames provided an update on Allissa’s condition, stating that while she remains heavily medicated, she is conscious and recalls the collision. Allissa, a recent college graduate and teacher in Oostburg, was excited to begin her career before the tragic incident.

“There’s a lot of concern about her future,” said Ames. “Everyone—her colleagues, her students—is hoping for her full recovery. But right now, there’s uncertainty about whether she’ll regain the ability to walk.”

The family is hoping Allissa’s health will improve enough for her to attend her parents’ memorial service. Ames shared a heartfelt message, urging others to value their loved ones daily. “Nicole and Jay were wonderful people who didn’t deserve such a senseless tragedy.”

Authorities have identified the wrong-way driver as 34-year-old Ace Vue from Milwaukee. He remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office plans to recommend charges of first-degree reckless homicide and is investigating whether alcohol contributed to the collision.
