Fatal Ruskin, Florida car crash death of Richard Laurence Wilson, Cynthia Jean Wilson, Shannon Jade Janus, and James Edward Janus – Obituary
A devastating crash in Ruskin, Florida on Sunday evening claimed the lives of four family members when their vehicle collided with a home near Shell Point Road West and 32nd Street Northwest. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the incident, which occurred around 8:15 p.m., does not appear to have been caused by reckless driving.
The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Richard Laurence Wilson, who was driving, his wife Cynthia Jean Wilson, 52, and her two children from a previous relationship, Shannon Jade Janus, 20, and James Edward Janus, 19.
According to nearby residents, surveillance footage captured the car barreling through an intersection at high speed, crashing across a yard, striking a tree, and ultimately slamming into a house before flipping over and coming to a halt. The impact rendered the home uninhabitable.
Julie Coleman, a neighbor whose house was hit during the crash, expressed frustration, saying the community has long urged the county to install basic safety measures, like stop signs, to address persistent speeding in the area. She and her husband must now relocate while their home, which was still undergoing repairs from hurricane damage, remains uninhabitable.
The fatal crash has reignited concerns over road safety in the neighborhood as residents mourn the loss of four lives and plead for long-awaited action.
