Ronald Eugene Stamm dies in fatal Chaffee County hiking accident

Fatal Chaffee County hiking accident death of Ronald Eugene Stamm – Obituary

Ronald Eugene Stamm, 38, from Aurora, lost his life in a tragic fall while hiking near Agnes Vaille Falls in Chaffee County on May 27, 2025.

Hikers discovered Stamm’s body face down in the creek bottom roughly half a mile along the trail at the Agnes Vaille Falls trailhead around 4 p.m. Authorities said Stamm had been hiking with his wife and their young daughter. While his family returned to the trailhead after reaching the falls, Stamm chose to continue hiking alone.

Evidence found at the scene suggested that Stamm attempted to climb the cliff face near the falls without any climbing equipment. It appears he lost his grip and fell more than one hundred feet to the creek below, where he was later found.

The Chaffee County Coroner pronounced Stamm dead at the scene. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
