Syntavion Priester, 21, from Williston, South Carolina, has passed away from injuries he sustained in a serious crash that occurred in Beech Island, Aiken County, on May 15. His death was confirmed Tuesday at 12:34 p.m., according to Coroner Darryl Ables.
Priester had been a passenger in the back seat of a 2014 Ford Fusion that was fleeing from law enforcement. The vehicle reportedly ignored a traffic signal at the intersection of Old Jackson Highway and Sheraton Drive and collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Suburban traveling southbound on Old Jackson Highway. The crash took place around 8:40 p.m. and resulted in a fiery wreck.
Tragically, Priester’s younger brother, 16-year-old Jaquavis Baptiste, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, died the night of the crash after being taken to the hospital.
Authorities announced that an autopsy will be conducted Wednesday in Newberry to determine the exact cause of Priester’s death.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office, in partnership with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and the deadly crash.
