Eighteen-year-old Yaber Casteneda has died after a collision with an SUV in downtown Chicago early Monday morning. The incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue.

According to the Chicago Police Department, Casteneda was riding a bicycle when he collided with a southbound GMC SUV driven by a 65-year-old man. Emergency responders transported Casteneda to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he later passed away.

The SUV driver received a citation, although the specifics of the infraction have not been disclosed. No one else was injured in the crash.

Chicago’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the deadly collision.
