Billy Hinkle dies in fatal Vallejo shooting
Fatal Vallejo shooting death of Billy Hinkle – Obituary
Billy Hinkle, 44, was one of two men fatally shot in a violent attack Monday evening at a homeless encampment near Austin Creek in Vallejo, California. A third man was critically injured in the shooting, which happened around 5:30 p.m. near Sacramento Street and Daniels Avenue.
According to police and family statements, a man had been seen in the area days before the shooting, harassing residents with a firearm and even firing shots at mobile homes. Hinkle, who had lived at the encampment for years with his wife, reportedly confronted the man along with a friend. During the confrontation, the suspect opened fire on them and fled before authorities arrived.
Hinkle’s stepdaughter, April Anderson, expressed her grief and concern, stating, “I’m in shock. I don’t want this person out there hurting anybody else and causing this pain to any other family.”
Hinkle’s widow confirmed he was shot in the head and shared her sorrow over their long battle with homelessness. She said they had always promised their children they would turn things around, but the years kept slipping by. “So many days, and months, and years, were just wasted. We told our sons, give mom and dad one year to get our lives together. And it’s been going on 10 years,” she said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact Detective William Carpenter at 707-651-7146 or via email at [email protected]. Anonymous tips can be made by calling 1-800-488-9383.
