Fatal Newport News shooting death of Dreshaun Pruden – Obituary
Dreshaun Pruden lost his life after being gunned down inside a convenience store in Newport News, Virginia. The deadly incident took place on May 17 at the Family Fare market located within a BP gas station on J Clyde Morris Boulevard. Responding officers from the Newport News Police Department found Pruden on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head.
According to newly released court documents, two men had been seen observing Pruden as he entered the store. Surveillance footage captured both men initially exiting the store, returning to their vehicle, and then re-entering. Once back inside, one of the individuals aggressively approached Pruden. As he tried to retreat, both suspects brandished firearms.
The video evidence reportedly shows that one of the men fired at Pruden, after which both suspects fled the scene. Their vehicle was later identified using a license plate reader from Flock Safety.
Detectives pieced together the suspects’ identities using a combination of surveillance footage and anonymous tips submitted through Crime Line. Authorities ultimately arrested Tony Tynes on May 20. He now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder.
