Fatal Brooklet shooting death of Emily Grace Mayo – Obituary
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently examining a tragic case in Brooklet, Bulloch County, involving the deaths of 9-year-old Emily Grace Mayo and her father, 37-year-old James Lee Mayo.
According to initial reports, authorities were called to Brooklet City Park around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, after receiving a report of an unresponsive child locked inside a vehicle. Officers from both the Brooklet Police Department and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
When officers gained access to the car, they found young Emily deceased in the backseat from a gunshot wound. In the front seat, her father James was discovered dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was located resting on his lap.
The GBI confirmed that both individuals were related, with Emily being James Mayo’s daughter. Their bodies have been transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler, where autopsies will be performed.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
